Bord na Móna wind farm construction launched in Co Tipperary

first_imgTHE CONSTRUCTION OF a 40 megawatt wind farm at Bruckhana in Co Tipperary was launched today by Minister Pat Rabbitte. The Bruckhana wind farm is run by Bord na Móna.The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources said at the launch that Ireland “has a challenging EU renewable energy target to meet by 2020″, which includes meeting 40 per cent of electricity demand from renewable sources. He said that the country is making progress towards this target, and development of renewable generation of the scale at Bruckhana is “crucial for maintaining the rate of build necessary to achieve our EU target”.The Minister stressed the importance of placing the concerns of local communities at the heart of the move to renewable energy in Ireland.Yesterday, Rabbitte launched the first stage of a consultation process on the Renewable Energy Export and Development Framework. He said that the approval of any proposed large-scale renewable energy export projects must await the putting in place of this framework. I recognise the significance of the announcement Bord na Móna has made here today regarding their Clean Energy Hub. I urge them, and all other prospective developers, to fully engage with this consultation process. The current public consultation on the Renewable Energy Export and Development Framework is the first of three public consultations to be held.Read: IKEA to invest in Leitrim wind farm to power Irish stores>last_img
