Sure sign of spring

The Simcoe and District Horticultural Society is taking the lead on the first big yard sale of the 2019 season. For $10, the society will fix you up with a table for your antiques, collectibles and surplus items at its annual community plant and yard sale at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds. The event takes place Saturday, May 11.“The bigger the better,” says Helen Uren of Simcoe, co-president of the society. “If we just run it as a plant sale, fewer people tend to come out. The whole town is invited.”Many members of the society, which is growing in membership, contribute transplants from their gardens for the sale. This is an opportunity to enhance private gardens at a reasonable cost while supporting the activities of the society. The latter includes beautification projects around Simcoe. Those wishing to participate can learn more by dialling 226-440-2699 or emailing helenuren@live.ca .The event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up around noon. The sale will be held in the parking lot at the fairgrounds near the Jr. Farmers building.MSonnenberg@postmedia.com
